Oh, Alabama (Redux)

Continuing the theme of "Alabama bringing up the, er, tail-end of the nation" we have this just in:

Alabama Is 2024’s 3rd Least Green State – WalletHub Study

"WalletHub compared the 50 states in terms of 25 key metrics that speak to the current health of the environment and residents’ environmental-friendliness. The data set ranges from green buildings per capita to the share of energy consumption from renewable resources."

Greenness of Alabama (1=Greenest, 25=Avg.):

  • Overall Rank: 48th

  • 28th – Air Quality

  • 26th – Soil Quality

  • 30th – Water Quality

  • 46th – LEED-Certified Buildings per Capita

  • 19th – % of Renewable Energy Consumption

  • 38th – Energy Consumption per Capita

  • 50th – Gasoline Consumption (in Gallons) per Capita

So, what does all this sacrificing of People and Planet on the altars of Power and Profit gain most Alabamians? Notably poorer mental and physical health, for starters.

How can we change this, Alabama? It starts with the elections this November. If we as a state vote the same way we have for decades, we can only expect the same results. In fact, if we keep voting the same way, we can expect worse results.
